Annual Salute to Law Enforcement & Public Safety Officers

American Legion District 21, which includes Perris and surrounding communities, on Saturday is sponsoring its annual salute to law enforcement and public safety officers and the civilians who support them.

Perris City Councilwoman Joanne Evans is chairperson of the event, which takes place at American Legion Post 79 in Riverside. Evans has played a key role in organizing the American Legion Law and Order Awards Banquet for more than 20 years.

Riverside County sheriff’s deputy Aaron Rico, who is assigned to the Perris station, will be among the officers honored.

“This shows them that we care,” Evans said. “They put their lives on the line for us and it’s nice to be able to tell them that we appreciate it.”

More than 20 police officers, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and firefighters will be awarded certificates of valor and merit, Evans said. Other honorees include California Highway Patrol officers, Banning and Riverside police.

The keynote speaker is Sheriff Stan Sniff.

Evans said event organizers expect about 150 people to attend.
