March 27: FREE Foreclosure Prevention Workshop

Unable to make your housing payment?

Behind on your mortgage?

Worried that you might lose your home?

The City of Perris wants to help.

The City’s Housing Division is sponsoring a “foreclosure prevention workshop” Saturday to provide information about ways for people with financial challenges to say in their homes. The meeting will put Perris residents in touch with federal Housing and Urban Development-certified counseling agencies, lenders and legal services.
The meeting is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bob Glass Gymnasium, 101 North D Street. Registration is set for 8:30 a.m. Spanish translators will be provided.

“The City doesn’t want residents to lose their homes and we believe this workshop will help keep people to keep their homes,” said Associate Planner Sabrina Chavez.

City Councilman Al Landers, a longtime Perris Valley realtor, urged residents to take advantage of the free seminar.

“This City is committed to doing everything possible to mitigate the impact of the ongoing housing crisis,” he said.

“We did not create this situation but we have to respond to it. It is important for residents who have questions or concerns to take advantage of this important opportunity.”

Among the topics at Saturday’s seminar are ways to avoid being taken in by foreclosure scams.  For instance, people should not have to pay for loss mitigation counseling, legal counseling, housing counseling and foreclosure prevention information.

Residents attending the seminar should bring the following documents: loan documents and recent mortgage statements, two most current pay stubs, last two years of W2 statements, two most recent income tax returns and a list of monthly expenses.
