Commission Openings Available for Perris Residents

The City of Perris is seeking qualified applicants to fill four openings on its Public Safety Commission and three openings on its Planning Commission.

Three of the Public Safety Commission seats are for four-year terms; the fourth seat was left vacant by the death of a former commissioner and runs until 2013.

The three Planning Commission seats are for four-year terms.

The City Clerk’s office currently is accepting applications and will do so until Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.

Members of the Planning Commission help promote public interest in, and comment on, the general plan and regulations, assist in implementing the general plan through actions including, but not limited to, the administration of specific plans, adoption of zoning ordinances, and making decisions related to land use entitlements.

Appointments of Planning Commissioners are made by the City Council who can take several factors into approving applicants— include knowledge of planning issues, experience in construction-related trades or occupations and familiarity with the City.  Each member of the Planning Commission must also be registered to vote in the City of Perris.

Members of the Public Safety Commission serve as an advisory body to the City Council and  assist the City Council in making decisions about issues related to police, fire, traffic and animal control and work with City officials to better accomplish its public safety objectives and goals.

Members of the Public Safety Commission must be U.S. citizens, at least 21 years of age and residents of the City of Perris.

One non-resident may serve on the commission so long as he or she lives within the unincorporated areas of Riverside County that are within the outlying boundaries of the City of Perris and the non-residential Commissioner understands that the purpose of the Commission is to advise the City Council on matters affecting the City of Perris.

Interested parties within the City of Perris may obtain more information by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall at (951) 956-2925, where applications are available.  Applications are also available for download on the City’s website at
