Chavez Library Closed August 1 - 18

The Cesar E. Chavez Public Library will close Friday, Aug. 1., and remain shut for more than two weeks while new carpeting is installed.

The City of Perris owns the library building and is funding the improvements at the site across the street from City Hall. Remodeling efforts include removing the existing carpeting, furniture, shelving and electrical outlets before installing new carpeting.

The City’s Public Works Department is supervising the project as part of Perris’ continuing commitment to maintaining a first-class library.

Cost for the carpet installation is about $65,000.

The Cesar E. Chavez Library is located at 163 E. San Jacinto Ave. in Perris.

Perris Mayor Daryl Busch says the carpet improvements continue the City’s commitment to making the Chavez Library a gem for the community.

In recent years, the City has replaced d the library roof and air-conditioning system and plans are in the works to paint the building and plant drought-resistant landscaping.

“The City is pleased to make these important improvements to our library,” Busch said. “It is much more than just a place to check out books. There is a computer center and the library also hosts many other community activities. We are happy to be part of all the improvements that have taken place and will take place in the future.”

The Chavez Library is set to reopen Aug. 18.
