Perris residents interested in applying for a vacant City Council seat may, beginning May 21, obtain an application online or pick up a printed form at City Hall, 101 North D Street.
The recruitment period for potential replacements ends at 6:00 p.m. on June 10, 2015. Original applications must be filed at City Hall, in person or via U.S. Mail. Emails and faxes will not be accepted.
The Perris City Council has scheduled a special meeting for June 16 to discuss the qualifications of each applicant and interview them in person. The City Council could select a replacement at that meeting.
The open term expires in November 2016. The term of the appointee will run from the date of appointment until November 2016.
Perris Mayor Daryl Busch, Mayor Pro-Tem Tonya Burke and City Councilmembers David Starr Rabb and Rita Rogers agreed that appointing a replacement for the open seat was the best option. Cost of an election could run the City up to $74,000.
Applicants must meet certain qualifications, including being at least 18 years old and registered to vote and residing within the City of Perris boundaries.
Applicants also will be asked to provide information about their education, previous experience on government boards or agencies, vision for the City of Perris and what they view as the top challenges facing the community. They will also be able to submit additional information about themselves in their applications.
Completed applications will be posted online to enhance the transparency of the process, City Council members agreed.
