The City of Perris Recreation Department is encouraging people to take a hike.
Beginning Feb. 25, the City will sponsor three hikes in scenic municipal recreation areas, providing residents and visitors the chance to trek past beaches, lakes and over hills for a glimpse at Perris’ wonderful vistas—all while burning calories while exercising.
The upcoming hikes continue the City’s Live Well Perris healthy eating active living campaign, said Recreation Coordinator Josh Estrada. The City hosted a series of hikes last year that was well-received and successful.
“We had a lot of great comments and enthusiastic participants,” Estrada said. “Several said they were unaware that the City of Perris had such awesome vistas.”
The Take a Hike series is free. Parking also is free.
The hikes include:
- Feb. 25 at the Lake Perris State Recreation Area
The 3-mile hike begins in Lot 8 and proceeds along the beach over a course that is fairly flat. Check-in time is 7:30 a.m. Hiking begins at 8a.m.
- March 25 at Kabian Park on Goetz Road in south Perris
The 3.5-mile course includes some hill and concludes at Canyon Lake before returning to its starting point. Check-in time is 7:30 a.m. Hiking begins at 8 a.m.
- April 29 at the Lake Perris State Recreation Area
The course for this event is a challenging 4-mile route that ends at the summit of Terri Peak. A similar hike took place last year and drew many positive comments from people who came from as far away as San Diego to take part. Check-in time is 7:30 a.m. Hiking begins at 8 a.m.
Estrada said that anyone who participates in any one of the three hikes will receive a raffle ticket with a chance to win a series of prizes at the conclusion of the third event. Prizes include bicycles, Fitbits and hiking gear.
