Attention Perris residents, visitors and physical-fitness enthusiasts!
Put on your hiking shoes, grab your water bottles, prepare the sunscreen and hit the road to the Lake Perris State Recreation Area. The City of Perris on April 14 is hosting a challenging 4-mile hike to the top of Terri Peak on a trail that rises about 800 feet from the bottom to top. Upon reaching the summit, hikers will witness the stunning views of the City of Perris, the mountains and Lake Perris, which is being refilled following construction to strengthen it to withstand a major earthquake.
About 200 hikers are expected to take part.
“This is the hike for anybody wanting to challenge themselves,” said Recreation Coordinator Josh Estrada, who is organizing both events.
But wait! There’s more!
Outdoor enthusiasts will then get the chance to tackle a pair of just-reopened bicycle trails during a bicycle ride April 28. So grab your riding shorts, sunglasses and prepare to tackle a pair of routes through the beautiful Lake Perris recreation area. It’s part of the City’s continuing “Geared Up” cycling series.
The shorter 6-mile route takes cyclists over the Lake Perris dam while the longer 9-mile circuit covers the perimeter of the entire lake. Estrada said bicyclists should prepare themselves to see magnificent American bald eagles nesting along the routes.
The riders will burn their share of calories too. So will those who conquer Terri Peak.
“Both the hike and bicycle rides continue our Live Well Perris program to get people off the couch, out of the house and exercise,” Estrada said. “It should be lots of fun.”
*The Terri Peak hikes begins April 14 with registration and check-in at 7:30 a.m. with the actual hike at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $5 per vehicle. The hike will begin near the park amphitheater and signs will be posted.
