Lt. Mike Portillo Named New Perris Assistant Police Chief

New Perris Police Lt. Mike Portillo (third from right) was welcomed to the community during the Sept. 11 Perris City Council meeting. The City of Perris on Sept. 11 welcomed Lt. Mike Portillo as the new second-in-command at the Perris Police Department.

Portillo, a 22-year-law enforcement veteran, has worked at several Riverside County Sheriff’s stations, (the City contracts with the sheriff’s department for law-enforcement protection) including Cabazon, Jurupa Valley and Moreno Valley. Past duties have included serving on the SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) and SAFE (Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement) teams.

“I feel very blessed to be in Perris,” Portillo said in remarks to the Perris City Council. “This stations enjoys a very high level of morale. The City of Perris supports its police.”

In his assignment in Perris, Portillo will serve as Assistant Police Chief to Capt. Greg Fellows, who functions as the Perris Police Chief. Portillo is married and the father of two children.

Mayor Michael Vargas welcomed Portillo to Perris.

“Thank you for joining our team,” Vargas said.
