The City of Perris on Oct. 9 announced the winner of a contest to rename Monument Park in the south side of town, a competition that drew 57 entries. The winning entry: Goetz Park, was submitted by Sierra Vista Elementary School student Jada Smith, 11.

Jada said she chose the name Goetz Park because Goetz Road lies next to the site in the Monument Park neighborhood. Jada received a 43-inch 4-K  ultra-high definition smart television and a $500 gift certificate for use at City recreation programs.  Jada was all smiles as she posed with her Winner’s Certificate with Perris Mayor Michael Vargas, Mayor Pro-Tem Malcolm Corona, City Councilwoman Tonya Burke, City Councilwoman Rita Rogers, City Councilman David Starr Rabb and Recreation Coordinator Sarina Gilmore.
