PERRIS, Calif. (October 16, 2019) –– The City of Perris held a soft open ceremony for the new billiards room at the senior center on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
Mayor Michael M. Vargas was excited to add this to a list of historical projects for the city and do something to bring joy to the Seniors of the Perris community.
“This is a remarkable day in our Perris history, and we are so glad to do this for our seniors,” said Vargas. “This is a beautiful room for all our seniors to take part in and we are glad to complete this project for these very important residents.”
Director of Community Services Sabrina Chavez addressed the seniors to tell them how important they were to the Perris Community.
“We want to make sure all the details of this billiard room were perfect,” said Chavez. “You deserve the best, so we wanted to make sure everything was coordinated the right way and show you how special you are to us.”
The project for the Senior Center started in January 2019 and included enough space for and installation of four pool tables, as well as brand new seating, decor, and lighting. Part of a master plan for the senior center which includes adding a kitchen in the back-dining area and possible expansion to include seating and recreational areas. Additionally, two televisions will be added and even some shirts for the Perris Seniors Billiards Team.
The Perris Seniors Billiards Team is made up of six people, competing in a league made up of other Senior Centers from surrounding Cities. Funding for the Senior Center, which services between 50-100 Seniors on a given day, was provided from Community Development Block Grant, and helped bring an idea more than 10 years in the making to fruition.
The Senior Center welcomes all patrons ages 50 and up, Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is located at 100 N. D Street.
