PERRIS, Calif. (November 25, 2019) –– The City of Perris participated in the grand opening of the Perris Clubhouse with The Boys & Girls Club of Inland Valley on November 15, 2019.
In attendance for the garden ceremony were City of Perris Mayor Michael M. Vargas, Perris Mayor Pro Tem Marisela Magaña, Perris Council Member Malcolm Corona, City Manager Richard Belmudez, Assistant City Manager Isabel Carlos, as well as members of the Perris Valley Chamber of Commerce and other staff members from the City’s Community Services and Development Services Department.
Mayor Michael M. Vargas talked about the importance of having a chapter within the City of Perris to help build up the community youth.
“This is a big deal to have the Boys and Girls Club in our City,” said Vargas. “We are happy to open this in the City of Perris and look forward to positive development in our young people.”
Jennifer Walker, Board Chair of Boys & Girls Club of Menifee Valley, was happy to see this project come to fruition.
“I’ve lived here and I’ve raised my kids here [in Perris],” Jennifer Walker, Board Chair of Boys & Girls Club of Menifee Valley said. “When we had the opportunity to open this Clubhouse it was near and dear to my heart the new clubhouse.”
The new clubhouse is located across from Mercado Park and has 84 active members since it’s opening with an average age daily attendance of 13 members. Staff and volunteers from the Perris Clubhouse pick-up students from Sierra Vista, May Ranch, and Lasselle Elementary Schools and bring kids to the Club for afternoon activities.
Membership fees are only $15 a year and provides homework help, caring staff, arts and crafts, science, technology, engineering and math education assistance (STEM), health and fitness activities, and a daily snack and dinner. Additionally, the clubhouse offers three sports teams, including soccer and basketball. More than 20% of members currently receiving financial assistance.
