In  2018, the  City of Perris  created  a  pilot  program  with  employees,  Getting  Employees  to Actively  Ride  (G.E.A.R.),  to  engage  City  employees  to  reduce the  carbon  footprint  in  the  city  by promoting  active transportation. Phase II would  focus  on  expanding the program to  Perris residents,  Getting  Everyone  to  Actively  Ride,  by  also  engaging residents  to  reduce  their  carbon footprint  by  promoting  active transportation,  creating public  awareness  and  providing safer routes  through  the  development  of  bike lanes  throughout  the  city. In  2020,  the  G.E.A.R  program completed  the development  of  class  III  bike lanes  throughout  the  downtown  Perris  area. This project  included 6.6  miles  of  class  three  bike  lanes,  bike repair  stations,  bike racks,  and  hand sanitizer  stations.  Following  the  implementation  of  bike lanes,  the  City  kicked-off  its  public awareness  social  media  campaign  to  promote the  bike lanes  and  bicycle safety. Through  this initiative,  the  City  plans  to  reduce  Greenhouse  Gas  Emissions  to  improve  the  air  quality  in  Perris, while  continuing  to  provide  an improved infrastructure  to  the  bicyclists  of  the  Perris  community.
