There are two common types of graffiti. The first type is gang associated, and is a method for communicating a gang's claim on a particular area. The second type of graffiti is associated with tagging crews, individuals who view their "tags" as individual expressions of artwork. Both types are illegal and degrade the quality of life for our City.

Graffiti on a Public Right-of-Way
Our Graffiti Abatement crew will respond to remove the graffiti. We use a variety of techniques and approaches, included power washing, chemical removal and paint-over to abate graffiti.

Graffiti on Private Property
The property owner is responsible for abating graffiti on their private property. In order to proceed, written permission from the property owner must be acquired. Color matching is not performed, as only tan or gray colors are available.

First, do not confront them. Taggers may be armed and there have been instances in other communities where citizens who confronted a tagger were killed as a result. Instead, you should immediately contact the Perris Police Department at (800) 950-2444 to report this, but only if you see someone actively tagging property.

The Perris Police Department has an active graffiti investigation unit that will investigate all reports of graffiti and will seek to apprehend and prosecute taggers. Be prepared to give as much information as you can, including:

• The location or address or the tagging.
• The number of individuals involved, including a description of their clothing.
• Any vehicles, including the license number, the make, model and color of the vehicle.
• Any other information that may assist in identifying and apprehending the taggers.
