Welcome to the Council Chambers!
History:
The City of Perris Civic Center was once the Perris Union High school campus until 1961, when the school was relocated to its present location at 175 East Nuevo Road.
The Perris Union High School was built on the northwest corner of Perris Boulevard and San Jacinto Avenue in 1910. It was a beautiful mission-style building with two bell towers; a second building was constructed to the north. The Recreation Department building was also built in 1910 and was formerly the High School music room and later the city fire station when the city acquired the property in 1961.
As can be seen in this aerial photograph taken in 1928, it had bare ground all around it. Students from Val Verde, Good Hope, Nuevo, Lakeview, Romoland, Homeland, Menifee, and even as far away as Winchester were bused to the school.
The Perris High School Gymnasium, now known as the Bob Glass Gymnasium, was built in 1931 and housed the cafeteria and auditorium.
On February 12, 1932, the southwest wing was destroyed by a furnace fire, but instruction continued in the remaining portion. For several years the building served as the police department since 1961. In 2007 it was restored as the city council chambers.
The administration building was built in 1932 and also housed classrooms. It was partially funded by insurance money from the burned building, which was only partly restored.
Foss Field Park, adjacent to the Civic Center, was the former high school football sports field.
